Merry Christmas 2010

We had a wonderful Christmas this year! Scott didn't have to work over the holidays and with them being on a weekend it was a great treat having him home so much. On Christmas Eve we went to the mall and did some last minute shopping, then we baked and decorated sugar cookies, and played games.

On Christmas morning Dallin woke up first and came and got us up as well. I wasn't sure how he would react this year because last year we still had to open his gifts for him. Boy was he excited when he came down stairs!! He ran over to the tree and started slapping all the presents. It was so fun to watch him get so excited this year!!

We opened presents and then had breakfast. We spent the rest of the day cooking, playing with new toys and watching movies before going to hang out with some friends that night.

We had a wonderful holiday and are looking forward to celebrating more when we visit Aimee's family over New Year's this next weekend!! We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!

Big Boy Potty

Dallin decided that he wanted to go poo in the toilet this morning when he woke up. He has tinkled in the toilet before bath time, but then he lost interest in it for a couple months. I would continually ask him if he wanted to go in the big potty and he would always refuse.

Scott was thinking of getting him a training potty for Christmas and I told Scott we would hold off until Dallin showed interest in it again. I'm not about to start potty training until Dallin is ready for it. I think that when it is his idea he will be more excited about it. So, I guess it might be time to start thinking about getting him a new potty.

New Furniture

Before Christmas there were a few things we wanted to get done. First, get Dallin into a big boy bed and second, purchase a dining room table so we would have a place to eat Christmas dinner. We were able to accomplish both on Saturday.

Dallin absolutely loves his new bed, and I was proud of myself for finding a great deal because I have been looking for months. He has been out of his crib for awhile, but now he has a cute big boy bed to sleep in.

Here is our new table. It fits great in our dining room and we are excited to be able to have our friends over for dinner or games. Our house feels more cozy now that we filled this big open spot with a table. Merry Christmas to us a week early!!!

December Update

Half the month is already gone so I thought it was time for a post. It definitely has felt like winter. It's been cold and it snowed here on Saturday night. It didn't snow much just enough to make everything white for December. And the snow is still on the ground because it hasn't warmed up.
I've been baking yummy goodies and Scott loves to build fires in our fireplace. Dallin thinks everytime I have my camera or phone out that he has to have his picture taken in front of the fireplace. He will run over and sit on the bricks until we take his picture. So cute!!

We had our Ward Christmas Program on Saturday that we helped plan. Scott sang a solo of "O Holy Night" and did a fantastic job, but we all know he has an amazing voice! We were released from the activities committee since they will no longer have them at church and we got new callings on Sunday. Scott is the new Assistant Ward Mission Leader and I am a Ward Missionary, so we will still be working together in our callings.

First Snow Sighting

I got a call today from Scott telling me to look out the window. He had just stepped outside at work and had spotted a few snowflakes falling with the rain. I have really enjoyed the fall season living here, but Scott misses the snow and is jealous that Idaho and Utah are already getting snow.
This year has been weird because Scott and I have totally switched it seems like. Scott is usually singing Christmas songs July through December and I am usually the one that gets excited for Christmas right after Thanksgiving is over. This year I am so excited for the holiday season!! We found a Christmas radio station and have been listening to the festive music ever since Halloween. Every time I mention traveling for Christmas or the yummy treats I'm going to make Scott just kind of smiles and changes the subject, so I am hoping that the glimpse of some snow in the air starts to put him in the holiday spirit.

Longer Commute

We just found out that Scott will be working at a new office starting on Monday. It is the job they told us they were planning on giving him when he first started his new job. They were just waiting for the position to open up.
Scott interviewed for the position weeks ago and had follow up interviews, and we weren't sure if he would get it or not because they took so long to make a decision. We are so glad that he got the position and are looking forward to working in a better office. It is farther from home, but hopefully he won't have to put up with the craziness of the old office anymore.

Happy Halloween 2010

For Halloween this year we celbrated at our Ward Activity on Saturday night. It started off with a Trunk-or-Treat outside and then we went inside for games and refreshments. It was a lot of fun and we had great participation. Scott and I are on the Activities Committee, so we got to help by Scott making homemade rootbeer and I made 48 cupcakes for the cupcake walk.

Dallin dressed up as Dumbo this year for his costume. The hat kept falling off and he really wasn't into me taking pictures of him. He did however enjoy people putting candy into his Halloween bucket. Thanks Aunt Erica for letting us borrow the costume!
Here is a video of the rootbeer brewing before the party.

Unpacking Like Crazy

So our house is a huge mess!! No complaints from me though because it means we now have all of our stuff back. We made a trip to Oklahoma City last weekend and picked up our stuff, and we are trying to make our new place a home...for now.
We learned that you can live without some things for 4 months, but I really really did miss my comfortable king size bed after sleeping on an air mattress for a month. The last few nights of sleep have been amazing because I have actually been sleeping. Well, better keep unpacking.

Happy 2nd Birthday Dallin!!

We can't believe our baby boy is two years old today. He is so much fun and adds so much energy to our little family. Dallin has fallen in love with the 101 dalmation movie lately, so I decided to do a puppy theme. It was only us so I kept it simple, and Dallin loved it.

He is talking a lot more. He loves to point to a picture of Jesus and say "Jesus right there." He does it at home, church, and other peoples homes. When he isn't running around the house he does find time to cuddle and give lots of hugs and kisses. He has such a loving personality. We love him so much and think he is so special and are grateful to have him in our family.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DALLIN!

New Job Here In Kansas City

So it feels like we have been in limbo all summer. We moved here to Kansas City for a couple months while Scott worked and helped oversee the sale of the company to another. The new company offered Scott a job and so we will be staying here longer. Its a great opportunity and there is a lot of potential to grow with the new company.
We are going to be signing a lease at a different apartment on Friday, so we will be moving again this weekend. Thankfully it is only across town and not across the country. That will entail packing the small amount of stuff we have been living with here because we thought it was temporary and also making a trip to Oklahoma City to get the rest of our stuff soon. Just wanted to keep everyone updated with our plans since we finally made some decisions.

Like Father Like Son

I decided to post some pictures about my boys today. I love this first one. Dallin loves to wear his sunglasses and hat just like Daddy does.

I also thought this was adorable and post worthy. I got called into the bathroom the other day to show me this. Dallin wanted shaving cream on his face like Scott. I will be able to look back on this day when he is older when Scott really teaches him how to shave. I love my boys!!

Children's Farmstead

With Dallin's love of animals we thought we would take him to see some at a farm. They had a few more animals than at Mema and Papa's farm. The farmstead we visited is a beautiful 12 acre plot of land with several animals and activities for kids. We saw turkeys, chickens, goats, cows, pigs, bobcats, bald eagle, hawk, horses, ducks, swans, and buffalo. Dallin was moooing and quacking all the way through the park. There was a fishing pond, pony rides, wagon rides, and mining. It sure was hot, but we had a great time seeing everything.

KC Royals vs. Minnesota Twins

We took Dallin to his first major league baseball game on Monday night. And for Scott we decided to go when Minnesota was playing. It was so much fun, Dallin had a blast, and it was an exciting game to watch. There were so many fans from Minnesota there and they won 19-1. They started off with a 6 run lead and a grand slam in the first inning. After that we were pretty sure Minnesota would win!!!

Oklahoma Joe's BBQ

We can't live in Kansas City and not post about BBQ. We tried a couple different places until we found this one that we really like. Oklahoma Joe's has won several cooking awards and trophies which are so proudly displayed when you walk in the front door of the restaurant. It has more recently been made famous when Vanity Fair placed it on their list of best BBQ places in the country and when President Obama ate there when he visited Kansas City last week.

I had to post this second picture for Scott.

Church History Sites

This past Saturday we decided to visit some Church history sites since we live so close to them now. It was a first visit for all three of us. First, we traveled 40 minutes to Independence, MO to the visitors center. We watched a short presentation on the plan of salvation and how it applies to us directly with our busy lives. This is Dallin driving the covered wagon in the pioneer display.

Right across the street is the Commmunity of Christ temple pictured below. We were curious as to the design of the building so we went inside and also visited the museum there.

Then on to Liberty, MO to visit the jail where Joseph Smith and other men were kept for many months. We are sitting on the outside edge of the jail. We had a great trip and it was a good reminder of some early church history events. We hope to visit Far West and Adam Ondi Ahman before we leave.

Day at the Zoo

Saturday we made a trip to the Kansas City zoo. We saw a lot of different animals, anything from antelope to zebra literally. Dallin really loved all the birds, but they were harder to capture pictures of. Some other animals that we saw were a hippo, flamingos, swans, African fighting dogs, iguanas, toucan, cheetahs, wart hogs, meerkats, baboon, crocodile, sea lions, otter, and several types of monkeys are the animals I can remember. There were so many to see.

Not sure why but I thought this porcupine was cute.

Its hard to see but one monkey would scratch the other monkey's belly while he was sleeping.

The elephants were really cool. They had such a huge area for themselves which makes since because they are such large animals. Scott read on one of the signs that the elephants eat about 200 lbs. of food a day. WOW!!

The lions were my favorite part. I'm not a cat person, but they were amazing to look at.

After a couple of hours we ate our picnic lunch and headed home for a nap. We didn't get to see everything because the zoo was so big, but we had a great day!!!

Just for Fun

I am always getting requests for more pictures of Dallin, so here are a few of him this week. I found him in his toy tub like this. I guess there were some toys he couldn't reach so he decided to climb on in.

This is Dallin's choice of what he wanted to wear. I had him in the overalls but he decided to add the white dress shirt and orange hat to the outfit.
