Dallin's 3rd Birthday

Dallin turned three on Tuesday.  I know all parents say this, but I really can't believe how fast he is growing up.  We celebrated with having a few friends over.  The kids played while the parents visited.  Then we ate some yummy treats. I like simple parties that don't stress you out so much that you don't enjoy the reason you are celebrating.
Dallin requested a "car" birthday this year, so I tried to be creative with the food.  I served chocolate doughnuts and peach rings for "tires" and made "stoplights" with red, yellow and green m&m's on brownies.   Just in case you can't see them from the picture.  Then just cake, ice cream and punch.
I let Dallin help me make and decorate his cake this year.  Its all he has been talking about for days.  I'm not a professional, but I was pleased with the cake.  Dallin loved it and that's what is important.
I had so much fun planning Dallin's party and can't wait to see what theme he will choose for his next birthday.

Update on Daphnee's Hips

We went back to Daphnee's doctor in SLC on Monday after four weeks of being in the second brace.  The ultrasound still showed no change.  The hips weren't moving into to the hip socket on their own.  This means she will be having surgery to put them in for her.  Surgery is scheduled for the end of October (she will be six months old).  Then six weeks later we go back for them to recast her hips as she grows and then another six weeks in the cast.  Three months total of a body cast from her tummy down to her ankles keeping it open down the middle for a diaper.

The good news is that she doesn't have to be in any kind of brace or harness until surgery.  So we have six weeks to cram as many photo shoots and other fun stuff in to our schedule that she won't be able to do once she is casted.  Not sure exactly what she is going to be able to wear so I'm sure we will be playing dress up all the time and making sure she gets to wear all of her cute clothes before then.

Daphnee is already loving the freedom with her legs.  And she is so fun to take pictures of at this age because she is always smiling.  I now have to decide which pictures not to post instead of trying to find one that works.

This last picture is totally a butt shot to see the cute matching flower.  I love baby girl clothes!!

Blissful Morning

I just thought I would share how my morning started today...

Daphnee woke up to eat at 8 a.m (she doesn't wake up to eat at night).  I finished feeding her and changing her diaper by 8:30 and was expecting to see Dallin walk into my room at his usual time, but no Dallin.  Because I love my sleep and am not really a morning person I took advantage of laying back in my bed with Daphnee.  We played together (she smiled, grabbed my face, played with my fingers, and made noises) for 45 minutes.  She started to get a little fussy so I swaddled her back up at 9:15 and she and I were able to doze back off til Dallin finally made his appearance at 9:45.

We left Daphnee in bed (where she is still sleeping almost 3 hours later) and he and I came downstairs to eat some biscuits and gravy for breakfast.  I know that is a complete waste of a morning to most moms and other hard working people, but it was absolutely heaven for me because it never happens.  What a great start to my day!!!

Scott came home for lunch and made the comment, "you must have had a good morning because you are in a good mood."  Haha.  I love that guy!

Just had to add a picture of my adorable kids!!  I love being a mom to them!!

Random

Well, me and the kids get to hang out quite a bit now.  Scott is back in school and is SUPER busy with his courses this semester.  Before he started he created a pretty cool double layer train track on Dallin's train table that he was very proud of.  And Dallin loves it so much he hasn't destroyed it yet.  It's been standing for weeks now.

Scott also took Dallin fishing and he caught his first fish of the summer.  He was so proud of his fish, so of course Scott let him bring it home.  For awhile anytime you asked Dallin about his fish he would tell you the whole story.  "We caught fish, we reeled it in, we cut it, we cook it, and we eat it!"  So funny!!  Sorry the pictures aren't the best but we did document the event.

I finally got my sewing maching out of storage and decided to make something for Daphnee.  I found a tutorial for a pillowcase dress that was super easy.  I had some scraps I wanted to use up so I pieced my dress together instead of using one piece of fabric, and I also made it smaller so she could wear it soon.
I also have some matching fabric rosettes (that I had made first) to put on a headband to complete the outfit.

We went camping over Labor Day weekend and had a lot of fun with some of Scott's family that came up from Utah. We floated part of the river with Dallin. They said it was calm and slow moving. Let's just say Dallin and I were completely under water when we went down one of the rapids. Not what we were expecting, but it was a blast!

Daphnee is on a new medicine and we are still struggling with getting her weight up.  We go back to Utah next week to see the Orthopedic doctors again.  Hope you enjoyed the update!!
