We also had an awesome time planting a small garden this weekend. We team-tackled it with the guys up stairs from us. We get to split the garden with them, so we all went to the store to get a couple different kinds of corn, peas, watermelon, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, bell peppers, egg plant, strawberries, and a bunch of stuff to make salsa (tomatoes, habenero peppers, jalepeno peppers, onions, and cilantro). We're excited to see if our labors take root and are a success.....and if everything will still grow alright with the black fabric to minimize weeds. We'll see. The watermelon looks a little wilted, but we are hoping it is just the stress of transplanting. In the yard, we also have a green apple tree and some apricot trees. It's been raining all weekend, so hopefully everything will perk up. You can see Aimee working hard in the first picture. We ended up planting well into the evening, finishing just after the sun went down, and she was just putting some finishing toughes on the cucumbers.
Here's the corn.....we have 4 rows, actually....some seeds and some starts.
Here we have some onions and peppers...Mmmmmm......Salsa!!!!!
And of course.....strawberries.....we're hoping these do well.
We still have a little more room, so we may go get a few more items to plant. This is by no means a large "food storage" type of garden, but it is all the space we have to work with, and it's a good learning experience, we hope, for what to do in our own when we have our own house. So, we hope everyone else has great luck with their gardens this year, and we are always open to good gardening pointers.
